Community Events

The community hosts a number of community events throughout the year for fundraising and entertainment purposes.

Poker Rally: Annually, the community holds the largest Poker Rally in Northern Saskatchewan, with cash and prizes exceeding $50,000.00. This major event is held to help fund the  mortgage and operation of the Indoor Arena, which was constructed in 1999. This event attracts hundreds of visitors from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta, including Robyn Regher of the Calgary Flames, in hopes of winning the Grand Prize of $20,000.00, and at $50.00/hand, players can win some great prizes. There are several scenic and historic sites along the snowmobile trail that visitors can enjoy;  Nistowiak Falls, Historic Anglican Church, Trapper's cabin and trails that have been the travel routes for many aboriginal families for hundreds of years. Also with the hospitality of the hosts/hostesses; neck bones, wild meat, and hot dogs are available along the trail check points for visitors to enjoy, and it's free. This event takes place at the latter part of January, and next Rally will be advertised in this page.

Winter Carnival:  Another event that happens annually is the Winter Carnival, this five day event focuses on entertainment and fun for Stanley Mission and surrounding communities.  A number of King and Queen Trapper's events take place , such as trap setting, animal calling, bannock making, log sawing, jigging, and buckskin contest.  Other events are, snowmobile parade and fireworks, talent show, fun events, broom ball challenge between departments, a dance, and to conclude  the Carnival, a Fish derby on Sunday.

Fish Derby: Throughout the summer months, the community hosts fish derbies to fund raise for different reasons. The prizes are excellent and the experience of fishing in the Churchill River is none less than awe-inspiring.

Advertisements for major Fish Derbies and photos will be up on this page as they come in.

Hockey Tournaments: With artificial ice available, hockey season begins in early September and ends in late April. Throughout the season a number of tournaments are scheduled. Old timers, men's rec, women's, and minor hockey tournaments happen, and teams from Central and Northern Saskatchewan part-take in these tournaments, also the Ice Wolves from La Ronge come into Stanley for an exhibition game in September and a regular season game in December. For further info you can contact the Rec Department at the Band Office or leave a message on the feedback form and you'll be contacted.
